Surjan Singh, alias Sarju, son of Hamam Singh (Das) Sadh, formerly of
Village Lakhpur, Tehsil Phagwara, Kapurthala State, but now a resident
of Jhingran, District Jullundur. He went abroad about 1907/09 and came
to notice in 1924 when he 'was reported to be working for the Ghadr
Party. He collected money in California for Ghadr Party work in China
and was reported to be an active Ghadr Party worker in 1928. He was
Secretary of the party in 1928-29, and his address in December 1928 was
P. O. Box 65, Loomis, California. In March 1929 he wrote a letter to the
Editor of the "Akali-te-Pardesiā, Amritsar, denouncing the "mean tactics"
adopted by the British Government to suppress the movement of Mahatma Gandhi. He was known to be a subscriber to the Kirti fund and
was also believed to be in touch with noted Sikh revolutionaries in
Afghanistan. In 1930 and 1931 he was elected to the Ghadr Party
Committee at Marysville, and even as late as the beginning of 1932 was
reported to be one of the active members of the Ghadr Party. Is still in
America.
