Shiv Singh Pritam, alias Tara Singh, son of Kartar Singh, of Chak No.
168/9/L., District Montgomery. He went to Fiji Islands in May 1929 as a
clerk and assistant to Ganga Singh & Bros., General Merchants, P. O.
Box, No. 13, Fiji. He has been corresponding with Nidhan Singh of
Mahesri (N-39), Sohan Singh 'Josh' (S-54) and Joga Singh (J-31),
Secretary of the American Ghadr Party. In one of his letters to Sohan
Singh 'Josh' he stated that he had, in accordance with the instructions of
the Party (probably the Ghadr Party), sent £100 by way of helping the
Mazdoor Kisan, out of which £50 had been sent to Dasaundha Singh,
American (D-16), and the other half to the addressee. These remittances
were stated to have been sent by means of drafts through special
messengers. He also asked Sohan Singh and Dasaundha Singh to supply
him with seditious literature. He is reported to be a nephew of the
notorious Baba Gurdit Singh (G-46) whom he asked in May 1930 to send
him a copy of the "Russian Revolution" by Ferozuddin Mansur (F-5), and
promised support to the addressee's book entitled the "Voyage of the
Komagata Maru". He poses as a priest, and his abode is between Latoka
and Suva. He was reported to be contemplating leaving the colony for
Brazil. In his letters overseas he styled himself as General Secretary of
the Gurdwara Committee, Suva and Secretary of the Sikh Desh Paremik
Society, now renamed Hindustan Sudhar Society, an extreme political
organization of the Sikhs in Fiji. In 1931 he was in regular correspondence with Nidhan Singh of Mahesri and Joga Singh of
Ghamiala, regarding the activities of the Ghadr Party and expressing his
anxiety to obtain a prescription of "drugs of sickness." The prescription
was believed to be no other than a formula for the manufacture of bombs.
In January 1932 Nidhan Singh of Mahesri sent Shiv Singh a bundle of the
Ghadr Party’s Special Ailan (Proclamation) for distribution in India in
response to the addressee's request. He left Fiji for New Zealand by the
S.S. "Mariposa" on 31st December 1932. Prior to his departure he
announced his destination to be India, but it was suspected that he
contemplated travelling to Germany, probably en route to Moscow, to
undergo military and propagandist training at the instance of the Ghadr
Party. He duly arrived in Germany at the end of March and later went on
to Moscow. His place has been taken by Santa Singh (S-20). His last
address was G. I. P. Box 244, Fiji.
