Sher Singh, alias Amrit Singh, son of Kesar Singh, of Vainpoin, P. S.
Tarn Taran, District Amritsar. Was reported by the Canadian authorities
to be seditious. He left Victoria by S.S. "Canada Maru" on 1st September
1914. He was stated by a fellow passenger to be very extreme and to have
advocated mutiny on the voyage. He also used to read from the "Ghadr".
At the meeting held at Hong Kong by the members of the various parties
assembled there, Sher Singh was elected a member of the Central
Managing Committee, which was to direct the campaign in India. On his
way back he recited seditious verses at the Hong Kong Gurdwara and
endeavored to tamper with troops in Singapore and to deliver a seditious
lecture in the Rangoon Gurdwara. On his arrival in India by the S.S. "Tosha Mam" he was found in possession of seditious leaflets and was
arrested and interned. He was convicted by the Lahore Tribunal and
sentenced to transportation for life. His conduct in jail was satisfactory.
He gave valuable information in respect of a plot to make bombs in the
Jullundur district jail for use against Government officials, and was
consequently released unconditionally in March 1931. Corresponds with
Jatindra Nath Nandi, son of Harish Chandra Nandi, of Marigs, P. S.
Badla, district Mymensingh, who was a fellow prisoner in the Andamans,
and associates with Baba Wasakha Singh (W-6) and Santa Singh of
Gandiwind (S-18). He works as a farmer and is quiet at present.
