Sawan Singh, alias F. P. Jangi, son of Mahia Singh, of Phadana, Lahore.
He is an ex-sepoy of the 22nd Punjabis who served as a constable in the
Amoy Police from which post he was dismissed. Subsequently he
obtained employment as a watchman in Canton where in 1926 he was
reported to be a member of the local seditionist party. He arrived in
Hankow from Canton towards the end of May 1927 with Pritam Singh of
Dhand Kasel (P-29) and Bishan Singh of Burjraike (B-70). He left
Hankow towards the end of October 1927 with about 20 other disaffected
Sikhs for Fen-Yu-Hsiang's headquarters at Chengchow in Northern
Honan. He arrived in Shanghai from Hankow early in 1928. He was
described as one of the most active members of the Indian seditionist
party in Hankow and Shanghai during 1927 and 1928. He left Shanghai
for India on the 11th of January 1929 with Kehar Singh of Manke Fatehgarh
(K-47) and Sham Singh of Manhala. He is an associate of prominent Kirti
workers like Santa Singh of Gandiwind (S-18). Naurang Singh Ghalli (N-
37), and others. He was one of the members of the 15th Shahidi Jatha for
Daska and was sent to jail for one year in default of furnishing security
under Section 107, Criminal Procedure Code, in this connection in 1930.
On release from Kasur sub-jail in March 1931 he corresponded with
Naurang Singh Ghalli and came into contact with notorious Kirti Kisan
agitators. In August 1931, he managed to get a job in the Government Dairy Farm, Sargodha, but was discharged from service in December of
that year. He has been a subscriber to the "Mazdoor Kisan' newspaper of
Amritsar. He is also mentioned in the list ofthe Ghadr recipients. Has not
come to notice since his discharge from the Sargodha Dairy Farm and his
present whereabouts are not known in his village.
