Sampuran Singh, son of Narain Singh, of Dandrali, Nabha State. Was brought up by Rai Singh, a Zamindar of Dandrali. Went to Federated Malay States in 1911. Joined the State Police Force but deserted it in January 1915 and returned to India by the S.S. "Tosha Maru". He was described by the Commissioner of Police, F.M.S., as a strongly suspected seditionist. Was arrested and interned in the Nabha Jail. Released in December 1915 and placed on security by the State authorities. From 1920 to 1923 he served in the Nabha Police as a Head Constable and throughout this period, he was in touch with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee, Amritsar, and joined those Akalis who took shelter in the Nabha State, and was a constant companion of Gajjan Singh. In January 1925 he openly joined the Akalis. Sometime later, he was arrested and tried under Sections 108/151 C. P. C. Failed to furnish the security demanded from him and consequently was sent to jail. On his release he was expelled from the Nabha State territory. He, however, returned to the State territory in contravention of orders of expulsion, was arrested and convicted under Section 188 I. P. C. Ever since his release he has been occasionally visiting Mastuana, situated on the borders ofthe Nabha and Jind States. About November 1924 he joined the staff of the "Akali" and "Akali-te-Pardesi" newspapers of Amritsar but worked there only for a few months. He had been frequently visiting the ex-Maharaja of Nabha and was believed to be in receipt of a monthly allowance of Rs. 20 from him since his expulsion from the Nabha State. He took a prominent part in the formation of a committee of the Nabha exiles known as the "Nabha Jalawantan Parwar Sahaik Committee" with an office at Amritsar and also enlisted members for a proposed Jatha of 240 Akalis to propagate the cause of the reinstatement of the ex-Maharaja. He was in constant touch with prominent extremist Akali leaders. In May 1927 he attended the anniversary of the "Sachha Dhandora" and made a speech eulogizing the national services of the paper. Is reported to entertain political views. Has started a brick kiln in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dirba in the Patiala State.
