Rur Singh, son of Attar Singh, of Chuhar Chak, P. S. Mehna, District
Ferozepore. He was a member of the Ghadr Party which left San
Francisco by the S.S. "Korea" on 29th August 1914. He was appointed to
the staff of the Ghadr Party on board the S.S. "Korea" in place of Jagat
Ram (J-2) who stayed behind at Manila and at Hong Kong, he was
appointed to the Central Committee formed to cany on the campaign on
their return to India. As he had some knowledge of English he was chosen
at Hong Kong as an emissary to the German Consul at Canton and visited
him in company with Nawab Khan of village Halwara, district Ludhiana
(formerly a prominent member of the Ghadr Party). He arrived in India
by the s. s. "Tosha Mam" and was interned but subsequently released. On
his release he resumed his connection with the party and was eventually
captured in company with Nidhan Singh of Choga (an ex-convict in the
Lahore Conspiracy Case). He was sent for trial in the Lahore Conspiracy
Case and sentenced to transportation for life. The question of his release
was considered in 1927 but the Deputy Commissioner and the
President of Police in Ferozepore. Were of opinion that no clemency whatever should be extended to him in the matter of release. Rur Singh
was finally released in October 1929 on certain conditions. He has been
living peacefully at his home since then. In 1931 he became a member of
the Desh Bhagat Parwar Sahaik Committee (committee for the relief of
the families of political prisoners) which is composed mostly of returned
emigrants from America and which receives money from the American
Ghadr Party. His associates include Hamam Singh of Kotla Nand Singh
(H-38), Sohan Singh of Bhakna Kalan (S-55), Pakhar Singh of Dhudeke
(P-1) and Bhai Sudh Singh of Chuhar Chak (S-65). he owns some
property in his village and lives on its income.
Description : Wheat complexion; sharp nose, curved at the tip; thin
build; keeps beard and kes which are streaked with grey; height
5'7 1/2”; age 50/55 years; a scar on the outer aspect of the right leg.
