Rattan Singh, Sevak, alias Nanda, son of Mangal Singh, barber, of
Rajwana Kalan, P. S. Raikot, District Ludhiana. He went to Africa at the
age of 17 or 18 and remained there for about 4 years. He then came to
Bombay and worked there as a motor driver. Subsequently he returned
home and later went to Calcutta and worked there as a motor driver.
Thereafter he turned his attention to politics and the "Kavi" (Calcutta)
October-November 1927 published a poem by him in which he expressed extreme anti-British sentiments and wished to see India free even at the
sacrifice of his family. In June 1929 he with other members of the Khalsa
Young Men's Association was reported to have been responsible for the
change of the Association called "Sher Bhajangi Singh Sabha" into the
Nau Jawan Bharat Sabha, Bengal. Was elected vice-president of the
"Kavi Kutia" on 17th August 1929. He presided over a diwan held at 105
Bakul Bagan Road, Bhowanipur, in memory of Bhagat Singh (murderer
of a Police Officer in India) and his comrades, shortly after their
executions. Rattan Singh lives at 23 Kansaripara Road, Bhowanipur,
Calcutta.
