Rattan Singh, son of Nagina Singh, Village Samrari, District Jalandhar.
He is reported to have gone to the U. S. A. in about 1929, though he
claims to have landed at San Francisco as a student on 13th April 1922.
His only living relative at his village is an uncle named Mehar Singh. He
studied (according to his own statement) at the Oakland High School and
the University of California, and afterwards transferred to the Idaho
University whence he graduated. He was working with Harbans Singh
Basi(H-11) at the time of the latter's arrest in April 1931. In December
1931 he addressed a letter to the Secretary, Indian Young Men
Association (Naujawan Bharat Sabha), c/o "Daily Bande Mataram",
Lahore, expressing his sympathy with the Association and his willingness
to become a member of it. In the same month he wrote to Dasaundha
Singh (D-16) c/o "The Mazdoor Kisan". Amritsar, asking him to suggest
some books containing the views of the younger generation towards
Mahatma Gandhi. His address was then P. O. Box Nos. 953 and 955,
Yuba City, California. He is now (June 1933) the foreman on Louie
Giovanni's ranch near Stockton. Is regarded as an active member of the
Ghadr Party and is described as highly intelligent.
