Rash Behari Bose (or Basu), alias P. N. Thakur, alias William Dull, alias Bupta, alias Taguchi Yutaka, alias T. N. Tagore, alias Ichiro Hayashi, son of Binode Bihari Bose of Fatagora, French Chandemagore, and also, of village Subalda, Burdwan, Bengal. He is said to have been educated partly in a school in Chandemagore and partly in Calcutta and to have read up to the Entrance Examination. He held an appointment as a clerk on Rs. 80 p. m. in the Forest Research Office at Dehradun, U. P. His conduct first came to notice unfavorably sometime in 1913 when he was staying in French Chandemagore on leave and was associating with local suspects. He subsequently again visited Chandemagore in February 1914. He was originally a member of the Jugantar party (a terrorist organization), but subsequently assumed control of the Anushilan party (a terrorist organization) at Benares and associated with all the leading revolutionaries of Bengal. He was the link between the Bengal and Upper India parties and one of the chief organizers of the proposed armed rebellion in India in 1915 and the leading figure in the Delhi-Lahore Conspiracy Cases and the acknowledged leader of the Delhi Bomb outrage. While carrying bombs to affect the murder of the Viceroy and the Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab at Lahore, his right hand was injured by the explosion of a bomb. A reward of Rs. 7,500 was offered for his arrest. He was in Lahore at the time of the search of the headquarters of the Ghadr Party and for some time subsequently wandered in the Punjab and then absconded to Japan in 1915, whence he has since been carrying on anti-British propaganda and has been in touch with the Bolsheviks in Afghanistan and with Mahendra Partap and Ottama Bhikku, the well- known revolutionaries. He was also in touch with M. N. Roy, the well- known Communist, now in jail. Is one of the most dangerous of Indian revolutionists. Still carries on machinations with Bengal revolutionists. Has a good knowledge of English, French and Urdu and is adept at disguise. Description : Born 1878; height 5’-8"; stout build; sallow complexion; broad forehead; large and somewhat protruding eyes; a marked cleft on the chin, said to be uniformly cheerful but to be quick tempered; speaks slowly; has a benevolent expression; one finger of right hand badly injured which still shows a scar and some crookedness; is said to have a scar on right foot, said to have been caused by the bursting of a soda water bottle. He is known to have adopted many disguises. It is probable that his appearance and facial expression change greatly with the shaving of his head, beard and moustache.
