Prithi Singh, son of Shadi Ram. Rajput, of Lalru, Patiala State. A
revolutionary who while in America, used to visit Jawala Singh's (J-19)
farm near Stockton to experiment in bomb-making, and was present at the
explosion which wounded the unknown man said to belong to the United
Provinces. Left America by the s. s. "Korea" on 29th August 1914. At a
meeting of the various parties at Hong Kong he was elected to the Central
Committee. Was detailed for work in India, particularly the dissemination
of seditious literature. Was joint owner with Amar Singh Rajput, of
Nawanshahr (A-19), off us of the pistols found in the Doctors' cabin on
board the "Tosha Mani". Was allowed off the ship unexamined as he
stated that he had come from Penang. Was present at the Ladhowal
meeting on 17th November 1914 when Nawab Khan of village Halwara,
district Ludhiana (formerly connected with the Ghadr Party). Kartar
Singh of Saraba (hanged), Kanshi Ram of Morali (hanged), and Nidhan
Singh of Choga (an ex-convict in the Lahore Conspiracy Case), met to
organize dacoity parties. He stated on that occasion that he had been advised by Bhai Parmanand (P-14) not to take up press work but to take
part in the military activities of the party instead. Was convicted of an
attempt to murder the police officer who arrested him at Ambala, and sent
up for trial in the Lahore Conspiracy Case and sentenced to death. The
sentence was subsequently commuted to one of transportation for life. On
the 30th of November 1922, while being transferred from Rajahmundry to
the Nagpur Central Jail he escaped from the running train. In June 1927
he was reported to have taken part in an attempt to rescue Kakori terrorist
prisoners. About that time, he was said to be controlling a group of
terrorists in Delhi. Was reported in 1929 to have paid clandestine visits to
some terrorists in Lahore, but the information could not be verified.
According to Kailashpati, (an approver in the Delhi Conspiracy Case—
subsequently withdrawn), Prithi Singh probably took part in an attempt to
murder two police officers and their wives in Bombay City in October
1930. He seems to have made his way to Russia from where he secretly
returned to Kabul along with Gurmukh Singh (G-54) in August 1933 and
both were arrested and imprisoned by the Afghan Government. He is still
in jail.
