Prem Singh, alias Malagar Singh, son of Risaldar Bur Singh, of Sangam,
P. S. Patti, District Lahore. Prem Singh and his brother both served in
the 25th Cavalry and subsequently emigrated to Penang. Prem Singh then
adopted the present name and became Granthi of the Penang Gurdwara,
after serving in the same capacity at one or two other places. He took part
in the seditious meeting at Perlis in January 1915 with Dr. Jagat Singh (J-
9), Bir Singh of village Fatehabad, district Amritsar, (formerly connected
with the Ghadr Party), Hira Singh of village Kairon district Amritsar
(formerly connected with the Ghadr Party), Gujar Singh and others.
According to an informer the Sumatra seditionists were in communication
with Prem Singh and sent him money to further their ends in the Punjab.
Left for India early in 1915 with Granthi of the Singapore Gurdwara and
was supposed to be on a political mission. Was arrested on landing at
Calcutta and was interned and subsequently released and restricted to his
village. He again became active in the Akali Movement and participated
in the forcible seizure of the Chornaia Sahib Gurdwara for which he was
arrested under Sections 147/342/448 I. P. C., in 1921, but was
subsequently discharged. He was also arrested in the Akali Conspiracy
Case of 1921, but discharged. Was appointed Granthi of the Chornaia
Sahib Gurdwara, inside Bhati Gate, Lahore, shortly after his release
which post he holds till now. He is a man of extreme political views but
was apparently quiet in 1927. He was instrumental in passing on
messages to and from Kishen Singh, the leader of the Babbar Akali gang,
during his trial inside the Central Jail, Lahore. He is also reported to have
been in touch with the Sikhs who were with the Indian revolutionaries in
Kabul. Still entertains Akali views.
