Partap Singh, alias Dharm Singh, son of Dewa Singh, Jat, of Mola, P. S.
Garhshankar, District Hoshiarpur. He delivered a seditious lecture at
Moorland (U. S. A.) in 1912, and was reported to have left America in
1914 to preach sedition in India. He joined the Akali movement and was
the first to reach Nankana after the tragic incident of 1921. On his return
he convened a Diwan in his village in March 1921, in which
objectionable speeches were made. Was appointed chief Jathedar in the
Ilaqas of Garhshankar and Belachaur in the Hoshiarpur district and took a
prominent part in the seizure of Gurdwaras at Anandpur and Kiratpur in
January 1922. He was arrested and convicted under Section 17(2) of the
C. L. A. A. and sentenced to 2 years' rigorous imprisonment in April
1922. In 1927 he was reported to be one of the persons to whom money
was remitted from the U. S. A. and Canada for distribution in India.
About the middle of that year, he was selected one of a deputation of five
by Bhag Singh Canadian (B-47) to be sent to Rangoon ostensibly for
collecting funds for the restoration of the Anandpur Gurdwara, but really
to be sent on to Russia via China for military training there, in response to
the demand of the Sikh revolutionaries abroad for more workers. This attempt does not seem to have materialised. Subsequently he was reported
to be a member ofthe Kirti group. At present he lives at Anadpur where
he works as a manager ofthe local Gurdwara and is also a member ofthe
S. G. P. C., Amritsar. He often attends political meetings and is a close
associate ofArjun Singh (A-29), ofKharaudi, district Hoshiarpur. He is a
jathedar and owns some land in Mocla Vahidpur village.
