Paia Singh, alias Uttan Singh, son of Bhagat Singh, Village Laskhri, P. S.
Majitha, District Amritsar. He is believed to have served in the Cavalry
before he left India in about the year 1910 or 1911 for China. From China
he appears to have gone to Canada, where he remained for some time and
thence to the U. S. A. which he entered illegally. He worked as a foreman
in an orchard at Fresno and was one of the local Ghadrites. He only knew
Urdu when he left India, but by private study picked up a good
knowledge of English in the U. S. A. His address is reported to be S. Pal
Singh, P. O. Box 1009, Stockton. He seems to be identical with the
person who was reported to have paid a surreptitious visit to Vancouver
about the middle of October 1931 and to have explained to his
countrymen there that the Ghadr Party were greatly disappointed at the
sudden departure to India of Kapur Singh of Kharaudi (K-14) because
they were thinking of sending funds through him to India which according
to his statement amounted to $15,000.
