Nidhan Singh, son of Teja Singh of Jaisinghwala, P. S. Baghapurana,
District Ferozepore. He first left India in 1902 for Singapore where he
worked as a watchman. He returned in 1905 and after spending some
years in Bombay and Bangalore, etc., left India again in 1912 or 1913
visiting Rangoon, Penang and Singapore, doing business as a lace
merchant. He finally arrived at Colombo in March 1915 and was found
importing firearms in a box with a false bottom. He was consequently
arrested and sent to the Punjab where he was interned. Sometime before
his arrival in India a letter was intercepted from Chanan Singh (C-5) at
Manila to Narain Singh and Tara Singh at Jaisinghwala warning them of
this man's impending return to India to cause harm to various local
people. His conduct in jail was consistently bad and he feigned madness.
He was released in December 1918 and restricted to his village for six
months. The restriction was removed in 1919. A year later he left for
Bombay where he has since been doing business as a cloth hawker and
pays occasional visits to his village. He is an active Akali and used to
associate with the Jathas going to Jaito.
