Naurang Singh

Naurang Singh, Ghalli, son of Santokh Singh, Jat, Village Ghall Kalan, P. S. Moga, District Ferozepore. He took part in the Akali agitation in 1923-24 and was a member ofthe Nadharak Jatha (Fearless Assembly). He is stated to have left his home for China either at the end of 1924 or in the beginning of 1925, in company with two other Akalis of his district. About the middle of 1926 he sent, for publication in the "Kirpan Bahadur"; poems exhorting the Sikhs to discard non-violence and to rise against the British Government. Early in 1927 he was a watchman in the service ofthe Shanghai Municipal Police, and reported to be a recipient and distributor of Ghadr literature. In 1927 and 1928 he was one of the most active members of the local seditionist parties at Shanghai and Nanking. He was granted an emergency certificate to return to India in February1929, but was arrested in the next month for complicity in the murder of Harcharan Singh in Shanghai on 6th March 1929. He was acquitted by the Supreme Court for want of sufficient proof. He was again arrested in June 1929 for delivering seditious speeches in the Paoshing Road Gurdwara, and sentenced to one month's imprisonment to be followed by deportation. He arrived in India in September 1929. It was reported that the 'Kirti' of Amritsar had sent his photograph for reproduction in the offficial organ of the Communist Party of Great Britain and he was described as a leading communist and a determined man who could handle arms and who, along with Karam Singh (K-19), and Ishar Singh of Sundun (1-28), was preparing to start a campaign of violence in the Punjab. In 1930 he was in correspondence with revolutionaries abroad. In 1931 he took an active part in the promotion of the Kirti movement,and in July ofthat year was elected General Secretary of the Nau Jawan Bharat Sabha. He is a regular recipient of seditious literature from the Ghadr Party at San Francisco and a subscriber to the 'Mazdoor Kisan'. He was reported to be the General Secretary ofthe Kirti Kisan Party Moga. About June 1932 he was tried under Section 17 (1) of C. L. A.A. but was acquitted in September 1932. Is living at present with his maternal uncles. Ishar Singh and Maghar Singh, Jats, ofAjitwal,. P. S. Mehna. Owns landed property. His associates include Bhag Singh Canadian (B-47), Dasaundha Singh (D-16), Secretary of the Kirti Kisan Party, Punjab, and Santa Singh ofGandiwind (S-18).

Description : Age 35/40 years; height 5'-8"; wheat complexion; sharp nose; both ear lobes bored; brownish beard; a cut mark on the upper lip; teeth white; two upper front teeth studded with gold and another gold plated; oblong face; stout build; knows Gurmukhi and Urdu and has a fair knowledge ofEnglish.
