Nand Singh, Sihra, son of Narain Singh, carpenter of Phillaur, District
Jullundur. Was educated at the Khalsa College, Amritsar, and went to
England in 1910 for further education. Whence after obtaining his B. A.
degree he proceeded to America, where he studied Mechanical
Engineering for three years. He was a particular follower of Har Dyal and
one ofthe Guru Gobind Singh scholars. Was present at Har Dyal's dinner
ofthe 25th December 1912 in honour ofthe Delhi Bomb Outrage. Was a
student for some time at the California University and a member of the
Punjab House at Berkeley. Intended to go to London to address the
Imperial Government on the subject of the grievances of Indians in
America, but did not do so. Returned to India in 1913 on a special
mission with Balwant Singh of village Khurdpur, district Jullundur
(hanged in the 2nd Supplementary Case) and Narain Singh (N-22). Again
went to America and in August 1914, applied for permission to visit
Canada but was refused. Was present at a meeting in Stockton Gurdwara
in January 1915 at which rules were framed for the guidance of emigrants
returning to India in the Ghadr cause. Spoke at meetings of the Ghadr
Party in December 1914 and January 1915, and on one occasion was
reported to have stated that the British had sunk many transports with
Indian troops on board, and to have urged his brethren to return to India
and disguising themselves as fakirs and sadhus preach sedition to Indian
sepoys. Professed loyalty to the British Consul-General but in reality
aspired to hold Ram Chandra’s place, and was considered the equal of
Har Dyal both as a revolutionary and a Professor. Reported about the
middle of 1916 to have become a religious fanatic. It is not known when
he returned to India but was reported to be in Lahore in 1926 as a
representative of the Ford Motor Company. Presided over the All-India
Ramgarhia Sikh Federation (a non-political body) at Kartarpur in April
1931, and also over the Ramgarhia Central Federation Session held at
Kharagpur, Bengal. Is reported to be a friend ofMunsha Singh Dukhi (M-
54), and acquainted with Santa Singh of Gandiwind (S-18), Dasaundha
Singh (D-16) and Bhag Singh (B-47), the most active members of the
Kirti Party. He has ceased taking part in politics and is at present reported
to be busy in opening a school of carpentry at his village. He was a highly
paid agent ofthe Ford Motor Company but resigned hisjob last year.
