N-14. Nand Singh, Halwai, son of Punjab Singh, of Village Khelera, P. S.
Katara, District Lahore. He was a fellow passenger with Baba Gurdit
Singh (G-46) in the s.s. "Komagata Maru". Has a sweet-meat shop at 45,
Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, Bhowanipur, Calcutta. Was reported in
September 1929 to have circulated 100 copies of an objectionable poem
composed by one Deoki Nandan Chanan, whose prosecution under
Section 124, I. P. C., was under consideration at Amritsar. Attended a
meeting of the Bengal Kirti Dal on 20th May 1929 at which it was
decided that the Dal would soon publish their organ "Sanjiwal" under the
editorship of Balwant Singh Granthi (B-28). Nand Singh Halwai was
elected Treasurer of the Kirti Dal. At a meeting held in the house of
Balwant Singh Pardesi (B-28) on 8th September 1931 to revive the Kirti
Dal of Bengal. Nand Singh was re-elected Treasurer. Was reported in
1932 to be a prominent member ofthe Kirti Dal of Bengal. Lives at 7-D,
Hazra Road, Calcutta.
