Mota Singh, son of Achhar Singh, Jat, of Bharoli, P. S. Banga, District
Jullundur. A "Komagata Maru" passenger, who was regarded as one of
the most formidable men in the district, with strong Akali views.
Reported to have possessed a revolver and participated in the Pachnangal
Dacoity in the Hoshiarpur district. Arrested and interned in 1915.
Released and restricted to his village in 1916. Restrictions removed in
December 1919. Applied for a passport to Fiji in October 1927, but
refused on account of his complicity in the "Komagata Maru" affair, and
association with political undesirables. Convicted in 1931 under Sections
148/149/304,1. P. C. and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. Still in
jail. Owns landed property.
