Maharaj Singh, alias Baju, son of Nihal Singh, of Kasail, P. S. Gharinda,
District Amritsar. A deserter from the 23rd Cavalry who was tried and
sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment for that offence.
Subsequently he joined the Ghadr at the Jhar Sahib. He made over his
sword to Prem Singh (of village Sursingh, district Lahore, hanged in the
Supplementary Lahore Conspiracy Case) connected with the Padri
Murder Case. He was sent up for trial in the Supplementary Lahore
Conspiracy Case of 1914-15 and sentenced to transportation for life. He
was, however, released in February of the same year under the orders of
the Local Government but his movements were restricted to his village
for a period of 3 years. In March 1927 he was allowed to move to Chak
No. 139, P. S. Bamniwala, district Montgomery and since April of that
year has been residing with his brother Nadir Singh at Chak No. 139/9-L.,
P. S. Dera Rahim, district Montgomery and working as a farmer. Is
reported to be quiet.
