Lakha Singh

Lakha Singh, son of Sandhi, Jat, Village Chiman Kalan, P. S. Nurmahal, District Jullundur. He went to the United States of America about 1908-10 and worked for some time in a factory at Stockton. Later he joined the Ghadr Party and became well acquainted with Rattan Singh, Santokh Singh, and other members of the party. He left the United States of America for India via Europe in the middle of 1926 and was reported to have been entrusted with some secret message by the Ghadr Party, and to have brought a sum of Rs. 22,000 from the Canadian American Press Society for the help of the Doaba sufferers, and the "Desh Sewak” newspaper. He returned to America in 1927, travelling via Berlin were he was in close touch with Harjap Singh (H-32). In 1929 he was President of the Ghadr Party, and was reported to be a regular quarterly subscriber to the Ghadr Party on behalf of the Kirti fund. In February 1930 he was said to have been elected to the Stockton Committee of the Ghadr Party. Towards the end of that year, he paid a surreptitious visit to Canada to discuss the constitution of the Canadian Hindustani Congress. He exhorted his brethren in Canada to change the title of the new organization on the ground that it did not stand for revolution. Early in 1932 he was reported to be one of the active leaders of the Ghadr Party. Is somewhat illiterate, but knows a good deal about the secret work performed by the Ghadr Party.
