Lachman Singh, son of Lakha Singh, Jat, of Langeri, P. S. Mahilpur,
District Hoshiarpur. He is the brother of Piara Singh (P-25) and ex-
sepoy of 26th Punjabis. He left India for Canada in 1907, and worked on
railways for 8 years. He entered the United States of America in 1914
from where he was deported for illegal entry, and found his way to
Shanghai through Japan, where he worked as a watchman. He was a close
follower of the Ghadr doctrines and wrote several seditious letters and
claimed to have sent the "Ghadr" to numerous addressees. He met Elahi
Baksh of village Todarpur, district Hoshiarpur (formerly a member of the
Ghadr Party) at Yokohama in July 1915. He was deported from China on
2nd August 1917, and on arrival in India was interned and subsequently
released on 5th November 1917 and restricted to his village. He was freed from restrictions in December 1917 under the Royal Amnesty. He
made two applications for a passport to Peking in 1921 and 1923, without
success. In June 1928 he applied for a passport for Kenya colony but was
refused. He is cultivating his lands, and like his brother, has been taking
part in politics and attending meetings.
