K-46. Kehr Singh, son of Ganda Singh, Jat, of Ichogil Utrah, P. S. Munawan,
District Lahore. Went to Hong Kong in 1887 where he served as a
watchman in the Hong Kong Singapore Battalion, Hong Kong Police and
head watchman for 18 years with an opium firm. Had been trustee ofthe
Sikh Temple for 16 years. He subscribed largely to the Ghadr fund and
stood surety for Hira Singh of Charar (since dead), when the latter was
under orders of deportation. He was mentioned by Hussain Khan,
approver in the Mandalay Conspiracy Case, to have taken an oath before
the Granth Sahib to be a member of the Ghadr Party and was said to be
the sole agent in Hong Kong for passing all Indians on to Canada and the
United States of America. He returned to India on the 16th July 1917 by
the s. s. "Hop Song" and was allowed to go home unrestricted but was
arrested and examined by a C. I. D. officer in August 1917. In the course
of his statement he denied all charges against him and on the other hand
claimed to have given information to the Police about Bhagwan Singh
Granthi (formerly a leader ofthe Ghadr Party) which led to his expulsion
and in support of this he produced a certificate granted to him by the
Captain Superintendent of Police, Hong Kong. He was restricted to his
village with security for six months in October 1917. In the following
month he applied for a passport to return to Hong Kong which was
granted to him on the strength of the Hong Kong Police certificate. Is
reported to be a watchman at Hong Kong on Netho Bungalow. Owns a
few bighas of land.
