Kehr Singh, Gill, son of Mehtab Singh, Gill, Village Nathuwala Jadid. P.
O. Kokari-Kalan, District Ferozepore. This man arrived in Canada on
s.s. "Mounteagle”, May 19th, 1922, en route to the U. S. A. He was at
first refused admission and ordered to be deported, but was subsequently
released, Mit Singh, village Pandori, district Ludhiana (M-35), having
deposited a cash bond of $500 on his behalf. After correspondence with
the U. S. authorities he was allowed to proceed and entered the U. S. A.
at Blaine, Washington, on September 19th, 1922, as a student, afterwards
working for a time in the Ford Motor Co., at Detriot, Michigan. In 1929
he came to notice as an office bearer ofthe Independence ofIndia League
at Detriot. Eventually he returned to Canada, where he owned a chicken
ranch at Cloverdale, B. C. In 1930 he paid a visit to California to see Teja
Singh Sutantar (T-8) with reference to the latter’s scheme for a Military
School, etc., but nothing seems to have come of this visit. He took up
residence in Vancouver early in 1932 on his appointment as Secretary of
the local Sikh Temple.
