Kartar Singh, alias Sher Singh, alias Sundar Singh, son of Sundar
Singh, ofChand Jadid, P. S. Baghbanpura, District Ferozepore. He went
abroad about 1906 and worked as a labourer and later as a real estate
broker at Vancouver. There he preached sedition and made anti-
Government speeches in the Vancouver Gurdwara, and also collaborated
with Sham Singh in the production of a pamphlet entitled "Gora Shahi
Zulam". He was a member ofthe "Komagata Mani" Committee and was
arrested in the Hopkinson Murder Case but was released. He was
reported by the Canadian authorities to be a persecutor ofloyal Indians at
Vancouver. He returned from America in April 1915 and was arrested and
interned. He was sent for trial in the Second Supplementary Lahore
Conspiracy Case in 1917 and sentenced to transportation for life. He was
a right hand man ofBalwant Singh (hanged) of village Sanghwal, district
Jullundur, whom he accompanied from Vancouver to Shanghai with the
avowed object of arranging plans for a general rising in India. In
February 1932 he was ordered to be transferred from the Central Jail,
Montgomery, to the Reclamation Adult Farm at Burewala where he will
remain restricted for a period of 2 years and 2 months and will there after
be released subject to 3 years police surveillance.
