Karta Ram (Kartar Ram), son ofBinddu, Brahmin, of Village Satnawar, P. S. Garhshankar, District Hoshiarpur. Bom on 15th July 1890. Emigrated to America long ago. Is a man of little or no education. Mentioned in Charan Das's statement as having gone from Fair Oaks to San Francisco with Kidar Nath Sondhi (since dead), Shibdeo Singh of Sialkot (since dead), and others. Became a member of the Ghadr Party under the influence of the late Ramchandra Peshawari, by whom he was sent to Germany at the outbreak of the war to work, under the Berlin Indian Committee. He accompanied Von Hentigs' Kabul Mission as far as Constantinople where he was deputed to tamper with the loyalty of Indian prisoners of war. Prominent in other anti-British intrigues of the Indian revolutionary party. Attended the Mutiny celebrations at Berlin in May 1919 and sang seditious songs. Was awarded the Iron Cross in recognition of services in Germany as a member of the Berlin Indian Committee during the War. Made an abortive attempt to reach Russia by aeroplane with Rikhi Kesh Latta of Hoshiarpur (since dead) in August 1920. In November of the same year was reported to be in correspondence with the Soviet Government with several other Indian seditionists. Was a shareholder along with Chattopadhyaya and others, of the Indian Revolutionaiy Society of Berlin. In March 1922 became a Councillor of the reorganised Indian Revolutionary Council, whose declared aim was "to overthrow the foreign yoke". Married a German widow with a son and a daughter and for a time kept a photographer's shop at Wbnsdorf. In 1924 removed to Hamburg, and was reported to be in straitened circumstances and to be intending to return to India. Reported in 1931 to be oflittle or no political importance. He returned to Berlin and certainly since 1928 has been living at 9 George Wilhelmstrasse, Berlin, Halensee. For a time he ran a restaurant in Berlin in conjunction with Mehta Singh, but this did not prove a success. He is now operating a sausage casings factory and is doing well. He is in the good books ofthe Ghadr Party and acts as an accommodation address for Rattan Singh alias Ishar Singh (R-36). He consorts with the notorious Ajit Singh alias Hassan Khan (A-l 1) who is also in Berlin.
