K-16. Kapur Singh, Birdi, son of Sher Singh, of Village Rachhin, P. S. Dehlon,
District Ludhiana. Is a Matriculate and went to America for higher
education. He entered the United States ofAmerica in 1922 with passport
No. 4584 issued at Lahore on the 12th February 1921. Is reported to have
been an active member ofthe Ghadr Party in California for about 3 years
and to have gone to Detroit for another 3 years to work as an apprentice
in the Ford Motor Training School. About May 1927 he was sent back to
Calcutta by the Ghadr Party in California with a sum of 10,000 dollars to
organise the Sikhs in Calcutta and Lahore. In 1928 he was permitted to
renew his passport to enable him to proceed to America. He is reported to
be an influential man and to be controlling one-third of the taxis owned
by Jagumal Baijnath & Co. of 22, Burtola Street, Calcutta. Members of
the Ghadr Party from Lahore, Amritsar, Singapore, Hong Kong and
Shanghai often visit him at Calcutta for instructions and inter-change
information secretly. Has an elder brother Birdi who is also reported to be
a member of the Ghadr Party in California. Kapur Singh was reported in
March 1933 to be living at p. 230/1, Russa Road. Kalighat, Calcutta, and
to be an associate ofVaniapurakal Kuruvilla Ipe ofTravancore.
