K-12. Kanshi Ram, son ofRam Singh, Brahmin, of Wan, P. S. Khalra, District
Lahore. He is educated upto the middle standard in Urdu and knows a
little English. He left his home in February 1907 and went to Shanghai
where he was employed as a watchman in the Customs Department. He
was a friend of Fauja Khan of village Halwara, district Ludhiana (dead)
and is the father of Hamam Das, deportee (H-34). He apparently was
twice tried at Shanghai for murder but acquitted. He was a Ghadr
sympathiser and was regarded by the Shanghai Police to be a dangerous
character. Before his arrest he asked an agent to procure him a copy ofthe
"Ghadr" regularly. Was finally deported by the Shanghai authorities
because of his connection with the Ghadr Party and was interned on
arrival in India. Was released and restricted to his village in December
1918 for a period of 6 months. The Shanghai authorities then
recommended that he should not be allowed to return to that country. Is
present at his village where he keeps a shop. Entertains anti-Govemment
views and is a Congressite and induces other men to join the political
movement. On 24th July 1930 he was convicted and sentenced for taking
part in an unlawful assembly at Jhaman, and was released on 17th March
1931.
