Kali Charan, Khanna, son of Hamarain Singh, Khanna, of Amritsar
City. Has been in Calcutta for the last 15 years. Came to prominence in
March 1931 when he, as the Secretary of the Punjab Youth League, gave
an address of welcome to Syed Ataullah Shah Bukhari, a notorious
political agitator, and paid glowing tributes to his services for the country.
He is the life and soul of the League. Gave an address at a meeting on
10th May 1931 to Baba Gurdit Singh (G-46) and Madan Mohan,
Burman, notorious political agitators, on their release from jail.
Condemned the action of the Punjab Police in connection with the
monument raised in memory of Bhagat Singh (Murderer of a Police
Officer in India) and his comrades. Attended a joint meeting of the Nau
Jawan Bharat Sabha and the Punjab Youth League at the office of the
"Swatantra” on 24th August 1931, at which it was decided that though for
all ostensible purposes the two would remain separate organisations, they
would in reality henceforth work under the name of "The Punjab Nau
Jawan Bharat Sabha of Bengal"; that their goal would be the attainment
of complete Independence by any means, and that they would agitate for
the removal of the restrictions on the use offirearms. Was in touch with
the Bengal revolutionaries, and had a Khadi shop in Cornwallis Street.
Was convicted in connection with the recent Civil Disobedience
movement. On release fromjail he left for the Punjab. Is a close associate
ofLila Devi.
