Jhajjar Singh, alias Dalip Singh, son of Hira Singh, Jat, ofNussi, P. S.
Kartarpur, District Jullundur. He stayed for about 8 years in Canada and
on return to India in 1914 by the s.s. "Tosha Mani" he was arrested under
the Ingress into India Ordinance, and sentenced to four years'
imprisonment. The sentence was, however, subsequently commuted, and
he was restricted to his village in May 1918. He took an active part in the
Akali agitation and became a member of the Shahidi Akali Dal. In
February 1922 he organised and presided over a political Diwan in his
village which was attended by many well-known agitators. Early in 1922
he was suspected of having committed a burglary, and of association with
bad characters, and in the same year was convicted in connection with the
Guru-ka-Bagh affair. He was consequently placed under Police
surveillance from 1923 till June 1925. He headed a gang of local Akalis
in December 1923 till June 1925. He headed a gang of local Akalis in
December 1923 and threatened the Mahant of Gurdwara Thumb Sahib,
Kartarpur, with forcible eviction. Proceedings were taken against him
under Section 107, C. P. C., but he absconded and took refuge in the
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee’s office, where during his
stay he organised the Qaidi Parwar Sahaik Fund (fund for the relief ofthe
families of political prisoners) in June 1924, and became the Secretary of
its committee. He was arrested in January 1925 and bound down for one
year under Section 107, C. P. C. He subsequently removed to the Indore
State, where in 1930 he was again bound down for one year under
Section 107, C. P. C. He was engaged in the 'Agricultural Scheme' in
Indore State. He is still in Indore State, and engaged in farm work. His
associates are Bhag Singh Canadian (B-47), Karam Singh Chima (K-20),
and Chainchai Singh Canadian (C-3). Owns landed property.
