Jaswant Rai, Sarda, son of Parma Nand, Patwari, originally of Batala,
Gurdaspur but now settled in Multan. He left his studies in 1909 and
thereafter worked as a sorter on the North-Western Railway Mail Service.
In 1912 he went to the Philippine Islands where he joined the Ghadr
Party. In January 1915 he sent a letter to Banarsi Das ofNabha State but
now of Kartarpur, Jullundur, in which there was an allusion to the
overthow of the British rule in India. He is reported to have been active
till 1920 and is regarded by his relatives as a very unscrupulous man with
very advanced political views. He was deported by the Philippine
Government on account of his criminal activities. He arrived at Calcutta
by the s.s. "Sirdhana" on 31st May 1932 and left for his home. Holds
British passport No. 688 issued at Manila on 9th May 1932 and valid up
to 9th May 1937.
