Hirda Ram, son of Gajjan Singh, Caste Dusali, originally of Village
Chawki Naggar, P. S. Hamirpur, District Kangra, but lately of Mandi
State. Not a returned emigrant. Was connected with the manufacture of
bombs by the revolutionaries in the Punjab, engaged houses for
headquarters in Lahore and tampered with troops in Jullundur. Was
considered by the Tribunal to be a most important member of the
conspiracy and was convicted in the Lahore Conspiracy Case and
sentenced to death. The sentence was commuted to one of transportation
for life. Was released on the 30th of April 1927, and settled in Amritsar
where he started business as a goldsmith in Katra Mahan Singh.
Information received early in 1928 indicated that he was reported to have
been deputed by the Kirti Party to organize Hindu young men. He
presided over a meeting of the Nau Jawan Bharat Sabha held in the
Bradlaugh Hall, Lahore, on 8th April 1928 and gave an account of life in
the Andamans which he described as worse than bell and incited the
young men to agitate for the release of political prisoners. Is an intimate
friend of Ram Saran Das of Kapurthala (R-19) and a shareholder in the
soap factory started by the latter in Calcutta. Attended the annual session
of the Indian National Congress held at Calcutta in December 1928. In
April 1929, he shifted to his original residence in Mandi State. In April
1930 he was reported to be intending to organize a Hindu Sabha at Mandi
and had a discussion with Bhai Parmanand (P-14) on the subject of the
proposed affiliation of that Sabha to that organized by the latter. At
present he is working as a contractor in the State Forest Department. He
is a communalist and is said to have taken part in the Hindu-Muslim friction in the State. He regards the Police force as useless and is reported
to be opposed to it. Is considered to be a dangerous person. Associates
with Mohindar Singh, Mohan Lal and Pitambar Dev of the Mandi State.
Description : Age about 48 years; tall; thin; sallow complexion; wears a
long beard and moustache.
