Hazara Singh

Hazara Singh, son of Mihan Singh, of Jandoli, District Hoshiarpur. He left India for America in 1909. Was illiterate and nothing was known against him when he left his home. Was said to be energetic and intelligent. He sent a very seditious letter, dated 16th November 1915, to his father, from Yuba City, California. In 1916 he was believed to be working as a laborer in America. In 1922 he was believed to be working as a laborer in America. In 1922 he was reported to be important member of the Ghadar Party and to be living in Central California. Presumably he returned to India shortly after, and after mortgaging his share of his ancestral property, left his village with his cousin, who later alleged that Hazara Singh had poisoned him, and had absconded after stealing Rs. 400. He was said to have been seen at Amritsar as an Akali. He was granted a passport for Java in December 1923.
