Harnam Singh, son of Chuhar Singh, of Chajjewal, P. S. Jagraon, District
Ludhiana. Went to the Federated Malay States, where in 1916 he
enlisted as an extra Constable, but was discharged after a short time. On
return to India in 1917 he enlisted in the Army but was soon discharged
on account of his political proclivities. Participated in the Akali agitation
becoming Jathedar of the Akalis of his Ilaqa, and was sentenced to one
year’s imprisonment. About the end of 1927 he was run in under Sections
151/107 C. P. C. but absconded before the case could be heard in court.
He was for some time printer of the "Kavi" magazine of Calcutta and was
reported to have been deputed by Baba Gurdit Singh (G-46) to spread
Kirti propaganda and raise subscriptions for the movement from his co-
religionists in the Federated Malay States where he went in January 1928.
Was employed there as a watchman in the Government toddy shop at
Kuala Kangsar. On account of his subversive activities a warrant for his
arrest was issued in July and he was eventually deported to India from
Perak, F. M. S., in December 1929. Arrived at his village on 22nd
December 1929 and was kept under police surveillance. Wrote to Munsha
Singh Dukhi (M-54) requesting him to send his magazine to him
regularly. In February 1930 he wrote to Maha Singh of village Kamalpur,
district Ludhiana (since dead), at Calcutta, asking for advice regarding his
future occupation and stating that he was desirous of going to Calcutta. Is
reported to know bomb making.
