Harnam Singh, Bassi, son of Nagina Singh, Jat, Village Bundala, District
Jullundur. In March 1923 he was convicted and sentenced to 2 years'
rigorous imprisonment under Section 124-A, I. P. C. On his release he
became Editor of the 'Desh Sewak' of Jullundur and was again sentenced
to six months' rigorous imprisonment for publishing an objectionable
article. In May 1927 he went to Singapore whence he sent a letter to
Sohan Singh Josh of Amritsar (S-54), which showed that he was deeply
interested in the Kirti movement. He returned to India in June 1928. The
following year he obtained a passport from the U. P. Government stating
that he was living with his father who had taken up his residence at
Saharanpur and proceeded to Fiji and thence to Panama. In 1931 he sent
a letter from P. O. Box 928, Balboa, C. Z. to Kartar Singh, son of Jawala
of his village expressing his inability to collect funds for the Naujawan
Bharat Sabha which he denounced. In October 1931 he wrote a letter to
the Editor of the "Mazdoor-Kisan" in which he warned the workers and
peasants of India to get rid of the merciless capitalist British Government.
He also wrote a letter to the Editor of the 'Desh Sewak' of Jullundur in
December of that year stating that the 'Kirti' newspaper should not deal
with religious matters but should devote itself entirely to propaganda.
