Harnam Singh, Giani, son of Ganga Ram, Sahad Udasi, Village Ade-
Kali, P. S. Nurmahal, District Jullundur. He went to America about 1907
or 1908. He bore a good character when he left his home. He was Priest
at the Victoria Sikh Temple in 1920. Made a speech at a meeting held in the Sikh Temple at the Fraser Mills on 9th January 1920 to commemorate
the death of Mewa Singh in which he appealed to his countrymen to assist
in supporting the dependents of the "Glorious dead". In 1922 he was
President of the Canadian American Press Society of the Doaba. In 1926
he was the Secretary of the KhaIsa Diwan, Vancouver, and about the
middle of that year was reported to have written to the Manager of the
'Desh Sewak’, JuIIundur, regarding the proceedings of a Diwan held at
Vancouver on the 23rd May 1926 at which the Babbar Akalis were again
eulogized. Money was collected on this occasion and sent to India for the
assistance of the Babbar Akalis. He arrived at Calcutta early in 1927 and
was suspected to be carrying large sums of money for propaganda work
in India. He was reported to be a keen Kirti Kisan worker, and a
confirmed anarchist. He returned to Canada at the end of 1929 and has
come to notice on several occasions since, for his eulogy of Mewa Singh
and other martyrs. In June 1932 the Police noticed that in one of the
rooms of his house the Ghadr Party pamphlet "Message of the Martyrs; A
call of Arms" was displayed.
