Gurdasa Singh, Johal, of Jandiala, District Jullundur. Was a school
master in Samrai Jandiala. Left for New Zealand in 1920, and after
remaining there for a year returned to India. Again, he went to New Zealand
in 1925 and worked there as a farmer. Was reported in 1928 to be the
Secretary of the New Indian Association (Country Section) Post Office
Paona Thames Line, Auckland, New Zealand. Remitted on behalf of the
Association, a sum of £39-10 to the Kirti. Amritsar, in January 1928 for
the relief of the families of the Babbar Akalis. Was a signatory to a letter
to the Manager of the 'Babar Sher' and also to the Gurdwara Committee
Amritsar, which contained the proceedings of a Sikh Diwan held on to 12th
April 1932, at the Stockton Gurdwara urging the overthrow of the British
Government. Is said to have sympathized with the Akali movement but to
have taken no active part in it.
