Darbara Singh, son of Ram Singh, of Malian, P. S. Bhaikote, District
Ferozepore. He went to Hong Kong in 1913 and thence to Canada by the
s.s. "Komagata Maru" but was not allowed to land. On return he was
interned in jail but was subsequently released and restricted. He again
took a prominent part in the Akali agitation and was consequently
prosecuted under Section 124-A/109, I. P. C. and sentenced to 15 months'
R.I. on 8th July 1922, and again to 2 years' R. I. under Section 188 C.P.C.
about September 1923. He was released from jail in 1925 and did not
come to notice till 20th March 1931 when he delivered an antiGovernment
speech and in November led an Akali Jatha to Sangrur (Jind
State). He is the Manager of the Malian Gurdwara and a member of the
Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee and Jathedar of the Muktsar Tehsil. He
is a strong antagonist of the Government and has been attending and
delivering speeches in Muktsar. He associates with extremists like Amar
Singh, Jhabbal, Master Mota Singh (M-38) and Baba Gurdit Singh
(G-46) and resides permanently in the Malian Gurdwara and generally
lives on subscriptions from public.
