Chattar Singh, son of Mehar Singh, Rajput, of Dholan, Police Station
Jagraon, District Ludhiana. Went to Calcutta in 1927, and was infected
with revolutionary ideas by Munsha Singh Dukhi (M-54). Seems to have
been one of the founders of the Nau Jawan Bharat Sabha of Bengal in
1928. In the following years he took an active interest in the activities of
the above mentioned Sabha, and was reported in August 1931 to be an
employee of the Kavi Press, and to have closely associated with Maha
Singh of village Kamalpur, district Ludhiana (since dead) and his gang in
an attempt to commit dacoity for which they were collecting arms from
Bharatpur and elsewhere. He was convicted to six months’ rigorous
imprisonment under Section 19 of Arms Act in 1931 for having in his
possession unlicensed firearms at Tollygunge, Calcutta, Bengal. On
release he went home. Returned to Calcutta early in May 1933. He is a
member of the Nau Jawan Bharat Sabha of Bengal, and a close associate
of the extemees Maha Singh, and Prem Singh Prem (P-28). Lives at 11,
Sankaripara Road, Calcutta.
